Rangers of Shadow Deep

Joseph A Mc Cullough creator of Frostgrave has announced a soon to be published game called Rangers of Shadow Deep. The game uses the same mechanics as its larger cousin and for me it is suitable for solo play, uses a 3x3 or 4x4 table and a team is only 6 to 9 figures.

There is a Facebook page or you can follow on Blogger, `The Renaissance Troll'.

I bought a rather tasty Lord of the Rings Ranger of Ithilien figure from E-bay then a trip to the loft and some old teen-years rpg figures were brought blinking into the 21st Century. A closer examination reveals that some have succumbed to the dreaded lead rot. They were stripped of paint then after a quick  internet search to treat the rot, soaked in white vinegar, then boiled in ionised water. Tomorrow I have to repeat the treatment, some have been saved, others not.
 The happy few

The not so happy few which cannot be saved

My loyal CO3 cleric and a 1998 Ral Partha figure with axe have lost their faces and the champion from Throgs Hobgoblin despoilers detail is very soft, the axe head fell off and I noticed that it is a miscast as part of the axe staff never cast properly.

Cheap Ogre Alternatives

I have always been disappointed in the new design of Games Workshop Ogres and the teeny legs Mantic design also doesn't interest me. In looking for a cheap alternative which wasn't semi naked and more Old School design I stumbled across these on sale from a company called Tehnolog based in Russia who sell via Ebay. There are 4 `Orcs' per packet which scale nicely with GW figures, for £2.35 a packet plus £3.92 postage I'm very pleased.

I don't think that the rest of the range will be of much use to me as a gamer but I've ordered a fair few packets for my 5year old Grandson.
Here is a fantasy toys soldiers review showing what else they do.

Asgard Miniatures FG5 .. wanted

Hello,
I am currently trying to locate the very first miniature I bought way back in the early 1980's, the Asgard Miniatures FG5 Giant Orc in plate armour. Now this cost me the princely sum of 30p  and the figure came with a separate spear or axe, not the sword a shown. I never threw my figure out, it was lovingly painted in Humbrol enamels - black armour with a green face, and a hand painted 5 pointed star on the shield but somehow it has gone missing.
Asgard miniatures was taken over by Tabletop Games in Nottingham and at some time the moulds were sold on. Some moulds went to Alternative Armies and Gavin Symes doesn't have this figure in his stock. Some moulds went to Viking Forge in Virginia USA but Lorn doesn't have the moulds either.
My daily Asgard miniatures and preslotta worldwide searches on Ebay haven't yielded one yet.
Bryan Ansell was asked on my behalf at the recent BOYL weekend but he can't remember the figure.
I posted on the LAF( Lead Adventuer Forum) but although some people remember it and some have even owned one in the past they have all gone to other homes.
I was wondering if anyone in the blog-o-sphere has one or knows of one for sale.
Many thanks.
Phil

Baywatch

Hmmm I've just had to get into the pool to remove leaves, branches and general detritus deposited by the high winds of the day before yesterday. I'm wondering, as I float around like a walrus, if there might be a TV opportunity for fat persons Baywatch.

Well it has to said that driving 610 miles from Scotland to home, through Storm Eleanor was not my brightest idea.
